The Future of restaurants

A fully automated cashier just took my money and returned my change correctly. Is this the future of things to come? It is unnerving!

I just had my supper at this Indian restaurant.

The waiter gave me an itemized bill with a bar code at the bottom and asked me to pay at the cashier. Looked towards the direction he pointed and could only see a cash register. He smiled and nodded his head to nudge me towards the cash register.

Place the bill at the location indicated on the cash register. Insert a $50 note into a slot just like an ATM machine, prompto dispensed my change correctly. Only disappointment, no verbal acknowledgement of "Thank You and Please Come Back Again"!

Is this the first glimpse of the future? Other restaurants already make you input your order into their electronic gadgets. This Chinese restaurant has tablet under every dining table for you to order your meal.

Very soon, restaurants will be void of staff. In 2076, this will be common place. Before you go to a restaurant, you will need to download the restaurant app into your phone, order your food, indicate the time you will be in the restaurant and finally pay thru the phone. The robots in the restaurant will prepare the food accordingly. The food will be ready, on the table at the indicated time. You just have to look at the app for the location of your table. All very efficient, no waiting time, food will be prepared consistently, exactly as you ordered and freshly laid on the table by robots, as you arrive at the restaurant. No humans needed.

In fact, the time will come when working is a privilege. Most humans will not have to work and the government will pay us for not working!
